August 2015 – Present: Wildlife Assistant

Responsible for medical care of wildlife patients that were brought in due to illness, injury, or being orphaned. My responsibilities included:

– performing intake and follow-up evaluation exams
– prescribing treatment and medication (including analgesics, antibiotics, anti-toxins, etc)

– administering IM, SQ, and IV injections including microchips, vaccines, and fluids
– performing physical therapy

– gavage feeding birds
– drawing and analyzing blood

– taking and interpreting radiographs

– euthanizing unreleasable patients

– performing necropsies

– supervising and training volunteers

May 2015 – August 2015: Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital Intern

During this 3-month intensive, I worked closely alongside medical staff with intakes, evaluations, treatment plans (including physical therapy) and lab work. In our care were a variety of birds (songbirds, corvids, raptors, waterfowl), mammals, and reptiles. In addition to learning on the job, I studied the material from NWRA’s “Principles of Wildlife Rehabilitation” and completed a final written exam with a score of 95%.

January 2012 – Present: Hospital Volunteer / Supervisor – Birdroom Team / Clinic Team

Foster Care – Release Program

Knowledge with species identification, proper handling, hygiene and safety precautions, physical therapy regimens and hand feeding techniques. Work with Hospital staff to provide comprehensive diagnoses and treatments for patients utilizing x-rays, blood work and more. Feeding, cleaning and medication requirements of each patient.
